Tiger Challenge

Client: Princeton Municipality, Michael Yeh: Director of Emergency Services Department of Emergency Management
My Role: Social Impact Designer

Overview

As a group of seven college students from diverse backgrounds, our challenge was to create a human-centered design intervention in partnership with the municipality of Princeton. In collaboration with the Office of Emergency Management, we created the Princeton Prep Pack, an all hazards disaster kit and informational materials to get residents thinking about emergency preparedness and community engagement.

Program Date: 06/03/24 – 08/01/24

Advisor: Jessica Leung, Princeton University

‍‍Collaborators: Tiger Challenge Cohort 14 – Julianne Somar ’26, Katya Grygorenko ’27, Rachael Wilson ’27, Tabitha Amanza ’26, Mahir Majid ’27, Kevin Edouard ’27

Project Highlights

Working as a social-impact designer, I leveraged my education in Sociology, Computer Science, and User Experience Design to empathize with and understand users, developing an intervention that bridges a need gap between the community and the municipality they live in.

In just 9 weeks, our team completed a full product development cycle, from problem framing, ideation, user testing, and refinement. Some of the specific methods we employed include:

  • Design Sprints
  • Affinity Mapping
  • Interviews
  • SWOT Analysis
  • Storyboarding
  • Journey Mapping
  • User Testing

The Results

The Princeton Prep Pack: an all hazards disaster kit for Princeton by Princeton

My Contribution

Along with working side-by-side with my teammates through every step of the design process, my individual contributions include the graphic design of project materials and the compilation of community resources and contacts for the creation of an informational pamphlet.
